Early Lessons on Regulatory Innovations to Enable Inclusive FinTech

Technology-enabled innovation in financial services (FinTech) can extend the benefits of financial inclusion to millions of unbanked and underbanked people around the world. However, the rise of FinTech presents many regulatory challenges - for emerging and developing economies in particular. Consequently a number of regulators in advanced, emerging, and developing economies have responded to such challenges by innovating on their own. These innovative regulatory initiatives include innovation offices, regulatory sandboxes, and RegTech for regulators.

Technological Innovation and the Dutch Financial Sector

This report discusses the impact of technological innovation on the financial sector and its implications for supervision. Given the inherent uncertainty related to this impact, this study applies a scenario analytic approach to develop three alternative scenarios for the future. In the first, established financial institutions embrace and successfully exploit innovation, thereby changing the structure of the financial sector relatively little. In the second, the market becomes fragmented as new, specialist players compete effectively with established financial institutions.

BRAC Bank’s head of SME banking, Syed Abdul Momen, formally received the award from Sunil Bhat, director, International Finance, at the International Finance Awards 2018, held at Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on January 25.
